General description
Matrix modification is a procedure done for reducing or even eliminating volatilization and vapour-phase interferences. This chemical modification is done by using inorganic salt solution which makes the interfering concomitant either more volatile or makes analyte less volatile. Nickel is used as matrix modifier for determination of arsenic and selenium, as it stabilizes these analytes by forming nickel arsenide and nickel selenide. It has also been reported to stabilize bismuth, antimony and tellurium.
